dvips: PostScript font installation

 2.2 PostScript font installation
 ================================

 To use PostScript fonts with TeX and Dvips, you need both metric files
 ('.tfm' and '.vf') and the outlines ('.pfa' or '.pfb'). ⇒Font
 concepts. Current TeX systems come with support for 35 base
 PostScript fonts and many more.

    If you have additional PostScript fonts, you can make them available
 to Dvips by (1) giving them appropriate filenames; and (2) running
 Afm2tfm (⇒Making a font available) to make TFM and VF metrics for
 TeX and Dvips to use. Also add them to 'psfonts.map' (⇒
 psfonts.map); this file must contain everything available in the
 system.  The 'updmap' program is usually used to maintain 'psfonts.map';
 run 'updmap --help' for lots of information about how it works.
